Tomo Lazovich

I am deeply invested in making sure that the technologies we build are safe and equitable for all.

I have both undergraduate and doctorate degrees in Physics from Harvard University, where I worked on the ATLAS Experiment at the Large Hadron Collider. My graduate work focused on the Higgs Boson, from its discovery, to measuring its properties, to using it as a tool to search for new physics.

Since graduate school, I have worked as a machine learning researcher. From 2016 to 2018 I was a member of the Machine Intelligence group at Draper in Cambridge, MA, where I worked on projects related to the automated classification and repair of bugs in source code. From 2018-2021, I worked as a Machine Learning Scientist at Lightmatter, a startup building a new hardware accelerator for machine learning based on silicon photonics. After deciding that I wanted to focus on the impacts of ML systems, I joined Twitter. There, I worked as a Senior Researcher on the ML Ethics, Transparency, and Accountability (META) team, focusing on mitigating the potential harms of algorithmic systems. I am currently a Senior Research Scientist at the Institute for Experiential AI at Northeastern University, where my research focuses on operationalizing responsible machine learning principles in real world settings.
